ABC var ju för bara några år sedan länge det HBO var för kabel-TV fast för de amerikanska rikstäckande kanalerna - en kanal som plockade fram nydanande TV och fick stora, kritikerrosade succéer just därför.
Men precis som för HBO så är den riktiga guldåldern över, och även om man fortfarande har några stora realityshows (Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor) och givetvis kvar några av de största dramaserierna (Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Desperate Housewives och Brothers & Sisters) och merparten av de viktiga tittarna mellan 18-49, så har färgen flagnat något, seriernas kritikerhyllningar förbytts i suckar, och en mängd försök till att starta nya succéer har misslyckats totalt.
Den här säsongen har till exempel According to Jim, Boston Legal, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, Life on Mars, Opportunity Knocks, Pushing Daisies och nu senast Samantha Who? lagts ned.
Resultatet är ännu ett år med storsatsningar, där man friskt vågat byter ut hela sin onsdag och stoppar in fem av sina nya åtta program samma kväll. Man förpassar dessutom forna succén Ugly Betty till den TV-dödsdömda fredagen, och kör igång en hel massa serier "mid-season" som man gjorde med vårens (oväntade) succé Castle - en serie som för övrigt får förnyat förtroende klockan 22.00 på måndagar.
Av de programförslag som skrotades kan förresten nämnas en svindyr äventyrsserie (en genre som verkar vilja vara på G, men som misslyckas på grund av konjunkturen? Samma hände med Fox pilotförsök inom samma genre) som hette Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas och en manlig version av Supernanny.

Skojigast bland deras nya försök tycker jag såklart nyfilmatiseringen av 80-talsserien V är (med Scott Wolf och Elizabeth Mitchell, som ju strök med (eller?) i Losts säsongsavslutning), men även Courtney Cox nya komediförsök efter Vänner måste jag kolla upp - om inte annat för att jag gillar henne.
Fantasy/SF-trenden är stor nästa säsong, och ABCs försöker med The Witches of Eastwick (med Ugly Bettys Rebecca Romijn) och Flash Forward (med Joseph Fiennes), vilket jag säkert också kommer ha koll på. Skådisarna Amy Acker och Sam Neill och meningen "from the network that brought you Twin Peaks" räcker dessutom för mig för att ha ögonen vidöppna för Happy Town.
Mindre intressant känns det för mig att Al Bundy/Ed O'Neill är tillbaka, att ABC sneglat på CBS och bestämt sig för ännu ett kriminaldrama av Jerry Bruckheimer (här ska de lista ut identiteten på okända offer...snark...det skulle möjligen vara för Reiko Aylesworths skull) eller att Kelsey Grammer och Patricia Heaton gör ett nytt försök efter fiaskot Back to You med varsin komediserie (ska vi chansa på att det blir dubbelt så olidligt). Inte heller en amerikansk version av det som på SVT just nu kallas Draknästet gör mig speciellt upphetsad.

Eastwick

Hank
Kelsey Grammer stars in this timely comedy as Hank Pryor, a titan of industry who suddenly finds himself out of work, almost out of money and around a wife and kids for whom he's never made much time. Despite his recent setbacks, however, Hank is confident he's on the road back to the top. He knows he is destined to return to greatness. And he is just not the greatness he imagines. The Middle
The Hecks are a middle class family living in the middle of Indiana, just trying to keep their heads above water. Modern Family
Today's American families come in all shapes and sizes. Shot from the perspective of an unseen documentary filmmaker, this comedy takes a modern look at the complications that come with being a family in 2009. Shark Tank
